LA COUNTY BOARD LAUNCHES WILDFIRE RECOVERY FUND TO SUPPORT IMPACTED COMMUNITIES

LOS ANGELES, CA — In response to the devastating 2025 Los Angeles County Wildfires, the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors unanimously approved a motion co-authored by Third District Supervisor Lindsey P. Horvath and Chair Kathryn Barger to establish the Los Angeles County Fire Recovery Fund. This fund, supported by a reallocation of $32.2 million in ARPA-enabled funding, will provide direct financial relief to homeowners, renters, workers, small business owners, and nonprofits affected by the fires.

“These fires have devastated our communities, destroying thousands of homes, businesses, and livelihoods,” said Supervisor Lindsey P. Horvath. “The LA County Fire Recovery Fund will provide direct financial relief to homeowners, renters, workers, and small business owners, and nonprofits impacted by these disasters, ensuring they have the support they need to begin rebuilding their lives. We are committed to prioritizing those most severely affected and making recovery accessible and equitable for all.”

“Today’s action implements a Los Angeles County Fire Recovery Fund that can meet the needs of residents and business owners who have been devastatingly impacted by the fires,” said Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors Chair Kathryn Barger. “The scope and scale of need is big and broad. This fund gives donors an opportunity to provide timely support that will be welcomed by many. The Recovery Fund will be an important resource that is responsive and flexible–it’s exactly what is needed, right now.”

The motion directs the Chief Executive Office to launch and administer the Fire Recovery Fund, which includes:

  • Providing direct cash assistance to homeowners, renters, workers, small businesses, and nonprofits impacted by the wildfires.
  • Collaborating with community partners to distribute resources efficiently and equitably.
  • Ensuring that outreach and application processes are culturally and linguistically accessible.
  • Continuing to identify available County dollars to supplement the Fund as recovery needs evolve

The Fund will complement state and federal recovery efforts. Governor Gavin Newsom has proposed $2.5 billion in emergency funding, and federal agencies have pledged support for debris removal and emergency measures. The LA County Fire Recovery Fund will act as a critical bridge to address immediate needs until long-term resources become available.
