Cellist Leyao Chen’s Solo Concert Concludes Successfully at New York’s Balance Arts Center

LAPost/New York, NY – March 31, 2025 – The Balance Arts Center in New York City’s vibrant Chelsea neighborhood was the stage for a mesmerizing classical music performance featuring rising cellist Leyao Chen. The concert, which showcased a masterful selection of Baroque-era compositions, captivated an audience eager to experience the depth and richness of classical music in an intimate setting.

The program featured Johann Sebastian Bach’s Cello Suite No. 4 in G Major, BWV 1009 and Cello Sonata in B-flat Major, Op. 46 by Louise Farrenc, both of which highlighted Chen’s technical prowess and expressive depth. Her interpretation of these pieces demonstrated not only a profound understanding of their historical context but also a unique ability to communicate their emotional essence to the audience.

Allison Yang, CEO of Mu Young Entertainment, the event’s organizing company, praised the concert’s impact: “We need classical music culture. By showcasing young classical performers like Leyao, we aim to inspire more young people to listen to and appreciate the timeless beauty of this art form.”

Leyao Chen’s musical journey began at the age of five with the piano, before transitioning to the cello at age eight under the mentorship of Professor Huang Beixing, principal cellist of the Shanghai Symphony Orchestra.

Chen’s talent has been recognized internationally, having performed at the Edinburgh Music Festival in the UK, where she collaborated with renowned cellists Mischa Maisky and Qin Liwei. Most recently, she performed with the Kronos Quartet and delivered a cello solo at Kaufman Music Center’s prestigious Merkin Concert Hall.

 

Her performance at the Balance Arts Center further solidified her reputation as a dynamic and expressive musician, poised to make significant contributions to the world of classical music.
