California Black Health Network Launches “Gift of Clean Beauty” Holiday Initiative to Promote Safer Beauty Choices and Support Black-Owned Clean Beauty Brands

Sacramento, CA — December 15, 2025 — The California Black Health Network (CBHN) today
announced the launch of its Gift of Clean Beauty Holiday Initiative, a statewide campaign encouraging
Black Californians to choose safer, healthier, and cleaner beauty products for themselves and their loved
ones this holiday season. The initiative partners with Black-owned clean beauty brands that have
committed to donating a percentage of holiday sales back to CBHN to support its community education,
advocacy, and health empowerment programs.
The Gift of Clean Beauty campaign is part of CBHN’s Spreading the Beauty Truth – Beauty Detox
Days, a program designed to raise awareness about the health risks associated with toxic chemicals in
beauty and personal care products—chemicals that disproportionately impact Black women, Black
families, and Black communities.
“Our beauty should never come at the expense of our health,” said Rhonda Smith, Executive
Director of the California Black Health Network. “Too many products marketed to Black consumers
contain hazardous chemicals linked to cancer, hormone disruption, fertility issues, and chronic disease.
This holiday season, we are providing a healthier, culturally centered alternative by spotlighting Blackowned clean beauty brands that are committed to safety, transparency, and protecting our community’s
well-being.”
Through the Gift of Clean Beauty initiative, consumers can shop haircare, skincare, and beauty products
created by trusted Black-owned brands that prioritize clean, non-toxic ingredients. These purchases
directly support:
• Black clean beauty entrepreneurs
• CBHN’s Beauty Detox Days education and outreach efforts
• CBHN’s statewide “Making the Healthcare System Work Better for You” initiative
• Programs that help Black Californians navigate healthcare changes related to HR1
“Clean beauty is community care”. “When consumers choose products that honor their health, they also
support Black businesses and strengthen CBHN’s mission to improve health outcomes for Black
Californians. This is holiday shopping that creates real impact”, said Charity Faye White, CBHN Program,
Manager
Health and Economic Impact
Research shows that Black women and girls are disproportionately exposed to harmful chemicals found
in hair relaxers, fragrances, skin lighteners, and other products that target Black consumers. The Gift of
Clean Beauty campaign raises consumer awareness of these risks while offering cleaner alternatives
rooted in wellness, culture, and self-determination.
“Black-owned clean beauty brands are leading the way in creating safer products that reflect our heritage,
our textures, and our needs,” said Smith. “We are excited to uplift these founders, expand access to
cleaner beauty options, and reinvest dollars back into our communities.”
How the Initiative Works
Beginning immediately and running through the holiday season:
• Consumers can explore a curated list of partnered Black-owned clean beauty brands
• A percentage of each purchase supports CBHN’s health equity initiatives
• Shoppers will also be invited to participate in CBHN’s upcoming Beauty Detox Days, a statewide
education push designed to help Black Californians understand ingredient safety, protect their
families, and build cleaner beauty routines
The partnership aligns with CBHN’s longstanding commitment to protecting community health, advancing
health equity, and ensuring that Black Californians have access to culturally relevant information that
supports prevention, wellness, and empowerment.
