The East Los Angeles College (ELAC) Foundation, California Prison Industries Association (CALPIA), and ELAC’s Addiction Studies Department collaborated to provide laptops to help ELAC’s Addiction Studies Department. These laptops were donated to the ELAC Foundation by the CALPIA and will be used by addiction studies students who are without access to a computer during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, most classes were converted to an online format. Unfortunately, many students lacked a computer and appeared to be in danger of not being able to complete their courses. Thanks to the immediate involvement of the ELAC Foundation, CALPIA, and ELAC Addiction Studies personnel, needy students were able to receive a laptop.
Some of the affected students were in an offsite class located downtown at the Anti Recidivism Coalition (ARC). Mr. Harvey Knight, Senior Life Coach at ARC, said, “Thanks ELAC for coming through for our students at this crucial time.”
In light of the current climate of COVID-19, many of our students and their families are faced with tremendous challenges such as, homelessness, food scarcity (hunger), digital divide, and access to essential needs. Due to these uncertainties, we remain vigilant to adapt in this unprecedented reality. Now, more than ever, our students and their families need you.
The fund will support our Huskies and their families with essential food, housing, and other expenses. Click the link below to support an emergency assistance to one or more students and their families. Every dollar donated goes directly to the students in need. Help us Transform a Life Today!
