Boarded-Up Storefronts Get Transformed Into Matisse-Like Exhibits
By Cara Gibbs
Proceeds from the Mural Project here in New York City will benefit City Meals on Wheels and Feeding America, and the murals themselves will remain up at the discretion of each retailer. The ultimate goal is to preserve the painted panels for a future virtual gallery or potential outdoor exhibit—details to develop! On the subject, Rivera muses, “The intention behind all of our designs is to inspire hope, referenced by the work of artists like Matisse and Miró. They’re meant to promote joy by using bold shapes and a bright palette. In the absence of commerce and metropolitan movement, we’re bringing life back to these iconic storefronts.”
