MONTEREY PARK, CA – East Los Angeles College (ELAC) Men’s Basketball team will be the focus of the 6th season of the Netflix documentary series “Last Chance U.” The season will premiere on Netflix on March 10th and will recap the 2019-2020 season. ELAC ended the year with an all-time school best: 29 wins and 1 loss and a historic 25-game win streak. They also had their highest ever state ranking at #2.
Standout of the team Kealen Allen was one of the best community college players in the nation and received the South Coast-North Men’s Player of the Year award. Allen finished 4th in the state in field goal percentage (67.4%), 13th in rebounds per game (9.3), and 15th in scoring per game (18.5). Allen draws motivation from off the court to push him to be better.
“What motivates me is my family; [they] makes me go harder every day so my younger siblings don’t have to struggle in life. I just want the best for them and that really gives me a push,” said Allen.
Allen, who recently committed to USC, joins the long list of ELAC Basketball alums who have continued their careers at the four-year university level. Almost all these student-athletes have sung the praise of head coach John Mosley and how he has helped to not only shape their basketball career but also their academic career.
Coach Mosley finished his 8th season in 2019-20 leading the men’s basketball team and has a 189-50 career record. The Huskies have made the California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA) state playoffs in each of those 8 seasons and appeared in ELAC’s only championship game in the 2014-2015 season. He won the South Coast-North Men’s Coach of the year for the 5th time in 2020.
