Facebook suspending Trump until at least 2023

Facebook announced Friday that it is suspending former President Donald Trump until Jan. 7, 2023, a full two years after he was first barred from the platform.

Nick Clegg, Facebook’s vice president of global affairs, said the two-year ban — the highest penalty available — is justified because Trump committed “a severe violation of our rules” by praising the far-right mob that stormed the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6. The ban will also apply to Trump’s account on Instagram, which is owned by Facebook.
