Deputy Secretary of State Wendy Sherman met with Japanese Defense Minister Kishi today in Tokyo. Deputy Secretary Sherman and Defense Minister Kishi reaffirmed that the U.S.-Japan Alliance remains the cornerstone of peace, security, and prosperity in the Indo-Pacific region. Deputy Secretary Sherman highlighted the United States’ unwavering commitment to the defense of Japan.
The Deputy Secretary and the Defense Minister underscored the importance of peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait and highlighted their shared commitment to working toward the complete denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula, including through trilateral cooperation among the United States, Japan, and the Republic of Korea.
