Monrovia Becomes the 29th City to Vote No Confidence in DA Gascon

Monrovia, CA – Last night, the Monrovia City Council voted in a 3-2 decision to issue a resolution of No Confidence in Los Angeles County District Attorney George Gascon. Eric Siddall, Vice President of the Association of Deputy District Attorneys spoke regarding the concerns surrounding the directives issued by DA Gascon. The agenda item also elicited a number of public comments, including comments by Ana Estevez whose 5-year-old son had been murdered.

Monrovia became the 29th city in Los Angeles County whose city council has voted No Confidence in Gascon, in addition to Rosemead School District and a few LA City Neighborhood Councils. The vote came after a slightly barbed exchange between council member Alexander Blackburn and Mayor Pro Tem Gloria Crudgington as to whether enough time and opportunity had been offered to DA Gascon.

With Monrovia’s vote tonight, nearly one-third of cities in the county have expressed concerns to the District Attorney over these directives. The absence of DA Gascon to have attended not one of the city council meetings in which this matter has come for a vote expresses to many an unwillingness to compromise or negotiate on matters seen to be of serious public safety concern to the residents of these cities. In response to the directives issued by DA Gascon on his first day in office that go contrary to an enforcement of the rule of law, a recall effort against Gascon has begun.
