Congressmember Judy Chu, Assemblymember Mike Eng (ret.), and Assembly Candidate Mike Fong Urge California Assembly District 49 Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) Voters to Vote By Mail As Soon As Possible

Congressmember Chu and Assemblymember Mike Eng (ret.) reaffirmed support for Mike Fong for State Assembly and highlighted the importance of voting in the February 15, 2022 Special Election 

ALHAMBRA, CA, January 22, 2022 – Congressmember Judy Chu, State Assemblymember Mike Eng (ret.), and State Assembly Candidate Mike Fong held a press conference today at the Mike Fong for Assembly campaign office in Monterey Park to encourage Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) voters in Assembly District 49 (AD 49) to vote by mail as soon as possible in the February 15, 2022 Special Election.  Mike Fong is the Democratic Party’s official candidate running against a Republican in the winner-take-all election.

They highlighted the importance of voting for the AAPI community and provided step-by-step instructions on how to cast and return a vote-by-mail ballot.  The Los Angeles County Registrar-Recorder/County Clerk has sent vote-by-mail ballots to all voters in the Assembly District.  Vote-by-mail ballots must be postmarked by Election Day.

“In this Special Election, the choice is clear: Mike Fong is the best choice for State Assembly.  Mike Fong’s great work ethic, dedication to our neighborhoods, and unparalleled experience make him most qualified to represent the San Gabriel Valley.  Mike will work hard to protect public health, promote economic growth, and reduce traffic for our communities,” said Assemblymember Mike Eng (ret.).

Assemblymember Eng continued, “Every voter receives a vote-by-mail ballot in this election.  Voting by mail is hassle-free, safe, and as easy as 1-2-3.  As you have done in the past to send Congresswoman Judy Chu to Washington, and me to Sacramento, I urge you to do the same by voting for Mike Fong and returning your ballot by mail as soon as possible.”

Congressmember Judy Chu reaffirmed her support for Mike Fong, “A lot is at stake in the 49th Assembly District Special Election.  We must elect someone who will stand up for our community and improve our schools, create good paying jobs, ensure clean air and water, keep our neighborhoods safe, and continue the legacy of former Assemblymember Ed Chau.  There’s only one candidate I am supporting in the race for State Assembly in the 49th Assembly District, and that’s Mike Fong.  Mike’s depth of experience is unrivaled, and his commitment to the San Gabriel Valley is unquestionable.  I urge you to join me in voting for Mike Fong for State Assembly.” 

Congressmember Judy Chu urged AAPI voters to make their voice heard at the ballot box and demonstrated the simple steps to vote by mail at the press conference:

  • On the ballot for the 49th Assembly District Special Election, there is only one question on the ballot.
  • Find Mike Fong’s name and use a black or blue pen to mark the appropriate bubble to vote for Mike Fong.
  • After voting, fold the ballot along the creases and place the ballot into the return envelope.
  • Seal the return envelope.  Then sign, date, and write the voting address on the back of the envelope.
  • The postage is already paid; no stamp is required.  Put the ballot in the mail as soon as possible.  The ballot must be postmarked by Election Day.
