2022 Lunar New Year celebration returns to Disneyland
Disneyland Resort Celebrates the Year of the Tiger with the Return of Lunar New Year at Disney California Adventure Park, Jan. 21 to Feb. 13, 2022
Anaheim, CA, January 19, 2022 – Disney’s Lunar New Year celebration event kicked off on Friday, Jan. 21 and runs through Feb. 13 at Disney California Adventure for the first time since the park’s pandemic closure.
This limited-time event – Lunar New Year at Disney California Adventure Park ushers in a joyous tribute to Chinese, Vietnamese and Korean cultures and traditions with a touch of Disney magic, featuring Asian-inspired food and drinks, vibrant décor, and Disney characters dressed in festive attire, keepsake merchandise and exciting live entertainment!
This year, Tigger from Disney’s Winnie the Pooh will help ring in the Year of the Tiger, along with Mulan, Mushu, Minnie, Mickey and more.

California Adventure Park guests can learn how Lunar New Year is also observed in South Korea and Vietnam and revel in special Asian-inspired dishes, activities and performances through Feb. 13.
Lunar New Year mural designer inspired by the “minhwa” style of Korean folk painting and shows iconic Disney characters embracing the holiday with open arms.
Chinese calligrapher Fuzhong Gan (Left 1) wrote “Tiger” in different Chinese fonts on the spot for tourists, as well as Chinese New Year greetings/blessing words.
This year, “Mulan’s Lunar New Year Procession” introduces a gorgeous new float that Mulan and Mushu arrive upon, accompanied by traditional Chinese drummers with powerful rhythms and performers bringing cultural artistry and dance to life. Decorated in red and gold to symbolize good fortune and happiness, the float features bright bunches of red firecrackers with golden tassels, and delicate red and gold lanterns that come aglow for after-sunset performances.
Enjoy special appearances by Disney characters at the Paradise Gardens Gazebo, where you may spot Tigger, Mulan and Mushu, Mickey and Minnie, and the Three Little Pigs – all dressed in their festive finery.

Raya, from Walt Disney Animation Studios’ film “Raya and the Last Dragon,” makes her official debut at the Disneyland Resort during the Lunar New Year celebration! Under a forest canopy deep in the heart of Redwood Creek Challenge Trail, you may encounter the heroic Raya, greeting new friends and visiting from the newly reunited lands of Kumandra.

The Paradise Garden Bandstand presents daily live performances featuring enchanting traditional musical instruments, along with Chinese, Korean and Vietnamese folk dancers. The San Francisco-based musical group Melody of China performs a fusion of Chinese folk, classical and contemporary instrumentals.
Lunar New Year celebrates the celestial journey of the sun and the moon on their voyage towards another year. During this special festival, guests can create memories with family and friends while sharing wishes for good health, luck and prosperity throughout the year ahead.
The tiger is one of 12 animals in the Chinese zodiac, but Lunar New Year isn’t just a Chinese holiday. It’s celebrated in several, but not all, Asian countries and among the Asian diaspora.
