Bellflower, CA (September 27, 2023)—On Saturday, September 30, 2023, Chair of the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors Janice Hahn will hold a gun buyback event in Bellflower in collaboration with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department and the City of Bellflower. The event will be held in a parking lot at Simms Park, a few blocks north of the 91 Freeway and east of Lakewood Blvd., from 9am to 1pm. Residents can exchange any gun for gift cards, no questions asked and without leaving their vehicle.

“We know too well the pain that gun violence has caused in our communities,” said Hahn. “We need to use every strategy at our disposal to prevent gun violence and these guy buybacks are an important one.  Guns are stolen and used to commit violent crimes and harm innocent people and law enforcement. We want to make it as easy as possible for people to get their unwanted guns out of their homes responsibly and help keep their families and communities safe.”

This is Hahn’s seventh gun buyback event since last May. Altogether, she and her partners in law enforcement have collected over 1,140 unwanted guns from events in Long Beach, Artesia, Lynwood, Hawaiian Gardens, and Wilmington. Each event is funded by Supervisor Hahn’s office, with the Sheriff’s Department providing deputies to staff the event and collect and destroy weapons.

Los Angeles County Assistant Sheriff Johnson, Bellflower Mayor Sonny Santa Ines, and Bellflower Councilmember Victor Sanchez will join Hahn for a press conference at the event.

There are important guidelines to participating in the buyback that ensure the safety of the public and Sheriff’s deputies. Participants should not arrive on foot or transit, and should transport firearms unloaded and in the trunk of a vehicle.
