The Chinese Consulate General in Los Angeles Reception Celebrating the 45th Anniversary of the Establishment of Diplomatic Relations Between China and the United States

Universal City, CA (January 26, 2024) On the evening of January 26, 2024, the Chinese Consulate General in Los Angeles held a reception celebrating the 45th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and the United States.

The anniversary ceremony at the Universal Hilton attended by 400 of guests including U.S. congresswoman Judy Chu, California state senator Josh Newman, California state assembly member Mike Fong, Flying Tigers veteran Mel McMullen and representatives of the Chinese community and Chinese institutions in the United States, celebrated the past 4½ decades without conflict, even as Guo reminded that much work needed to be done to ensure this track record continued.

Ambassador Guo warmly welcomed all the guests, paid tribute to successive leaders of both countries who have advanced China-U.S. relations, and extended heartfelt thanks to people from various communities who have long cared for and supported the development of China-U.S. relations.

On Friday, Ambassador Guo called for a deepening of ties to weather potentially rockier times ahead, including more flights, student exchanges and people-to-people ties, as a way to cement progress made in November when President Xi Jinping and President Joe Biden met in San Francisco in a bid to put a floor under bilateral relations.
