Chinese Consulate General in Los Angeles Hosts 2024 Spring Festival Reception
San Gabriel, CA (February 04, 2024) – The Chinese Consulate General in Los Angeles hosted a 2024 Spring Festival Reception on Saturday night, celebrating the upcoming Spring Festival, which was attended by Congresswoman Judy Chu, California state Senator Jose Newman, assembly member Mike Fong, and about 800 guests, including principals of Chinese associations, representatives of overseas Chinese students and senior managers of China enterprises, attended the reception and the atmosphere was grand and ardent.

Chinese Consul General in Los Angeles Guo Shaochun made a speech at the reception held at the grand imperial ballroom of Sheraton Los Angeles San Gabriel to representatives from various local groups and overseas Chinese, extended his New Year greetings to friends from different sectors in Southwest of the states.
In his speech, Consul General Guo introduced “The Spring Festival is the oldest and the most important traditional festival in China.” He pointed out, “In September 2022, the Golden State of California became the first to recognize Lunar New Year as an official state holiday in the United States. In December 2023, the United Nations adopted a resolution by consensus to list the Lunar New Year as a UN floating holiday. The Spring Festival has become a window for the world to perceive China and a bridge for mutual learning among different civilizations.”
“China’s economy rebounds and moves upward, with an estimated GDP growth of 5.2 percent, at the forefront among major economies. China’s manufacturing prowess continues to shine, cultivating the world’s largest manufacturing sector for 14 consecutive years. China’s innovation-driven development is full of energy. Its total input in R&D and investment in high-tech sectors have been growing at double-digit rates for several years running and its international patent applications rank the first in the world. “
“In a few days, we will enter the Year of the Dragon. Dragon symbolizes nobility, auspiciousness and prosperity in Chinese culture. We wish our great motherland prosperity and the Chinese people happiness. We wish China-U.S relations stable, sound and sustainable developments. We wish China-U.S sub-national exchanges and cooperation more fruitful outcomes, and the friendship between Chinese and American people last forever. Last but not the least, I wish you all health, happiness and success in the Year of the Dragon! ” said Guo.

During the reception, the atmosphere of the reception was grand and festive, with wonderful performances such as dragon dancing, martial arts, folk music, and chorus; young staff members from the Consulate General also performed a chorus for the guests.
The event was a visual feast for visitors. Chinese dishes were served while Chinese dancers and singers took to the stage.

The guests said that the New Year reception made them feel the long-lost Chinese New Year flavor and the warmth of going home.
The reception continued for nearly three hours, with marvelous decorations and lighting, beautiful flowers, red Lanterns and smiles, lovely songs and music.
