SUPERVISOR KATHRYN BARGER AND LA COUNTY ANIMAL CARE AND CONTROL PARTNER FOR PALMDALE SPAY/NEUTER CLINIC
The Department of Animal Care and Control (DACC) and Supervisor Kathryn Barger are proud to announce an upcoming spay/neuter clinic in the Antelope Valley.
The latest spay/neuter clinic is scheduled for Tuesday, February 20 at the Palmdale Animal Care Center, one of the highest intake care centers in Los Angeles County. By offering accessible spay/neuter services to pet owners in need, Supervisor Barger and DACC aim to stem the tide of unwanted litters and provide a sustainable solution to the systemic challenges facing L.A. County animal care centers, particularly in the North County.
“We recognize the urgent need to address the root causes of pet overpopulation,” stated Marcia Mayeda, Director of DACC. “Through the generous support of Supervisor Kathryn Barger, we are empowered to take proactive steps towards alleviating the burden on our care centers and ensuring a brighter future for animals in the Antelope Valley and throughout LA County.”
DACC’s ongoing efforts to mitigate pet overpopulation through these critical surgeries were significantly bolstered thanks to $100,000 in funding from Supervisor Barger, who is a longtime and passionate animal advocate. Supervisor Barger allocated the funding to increase spay and neuter services for animals in North Los Angeles County in honor of Spay/Neuter Awareness Month.
“Our animal care centers are overcrowded with pets awaiting loving families,” said Supervisor Kathryn Barger. “I truly hope the community embraces and accesses the clinic’s services. As pet owners, it’s our responsibility to ensure we prevent more dogs and cats from ending up in shelters. Spaying or neutering your pet is the best way to make sure more animals aren’t without a home. This is one of the most loving things we can do for our pets.”
Low-cost spay/neuter events are routinely hosted by DACC at their seven care centers as part of a comprehensive and award-winning pet retention program, Pets Are Family, which also includes frequent Vet@ThePark wellness events to provide preventative care at no cost to pet owners.
