LAPost, Los Angeles (December 26, 2024) – The Chinese American NGO Research Association, North America Chinese Media Polling Center, and the English-language Los Angeles Post jointly announced the “Top 10 News Stories of 2024 for Chinese American Organizations in Southern California” on December 26. These selections were based on professional polling, emphasizing the influence, impact, and media coverage of news events. Rankings also incorporated online search statistics, social media traffic, and comprehensive data analysis.
This marks the 16th consecutive year these organizations have released the “Top 10 News Stories of the Year for Chinese American Organizations in Southern California.” The results were published in both Chinese and English.
The selection committee noted that this year’s highlights continue to focus on diverse themes and innovative event models presented by Chinese American and international student organizations. Attention was given to their sustainable development, societal impact, and the forward-looking topics of their evolving roles in U.S.-China relations.
Top 10 News Stories for 2024

- January 2 – The All-American Chinese Youth Federation, Los Angeles Chinese Film and TV Artists Association, and Los Angeles Post co-hosted the “Youth Forum on Online Micro-Drama Creation and Opportunities” in Los Angeles. The forum discussed how Chinese and international student creators could leverage their strengths as micro-dramas increasingly shift towards high-quality production. This was Southern California’s first professional forum on micro-dramas.
- February 27 – Yue-Sai Kan’s One World Fund, in partnership with the China Institute, held the annual “Top 10 Outstanding Asian Women” Awards in Los Angeles. The event recognized “exceptional Asian women who boldly transform our communities and future.” Yue-Sai Kan presented awards to 10 women, including Lisa Lu.

- May 11 – In celebration of Asian Pacific American Heritage Month, Ying Wisdom and Annie’s Cat Lounge co-hosted the “Cultural Feast” at the Ying Wisdom Cultural Center in Arcadia. The event featured traditional Chinese clothing, ancient handicrafts, and cuisine, showcasing the diversity and unique charm of Chinese culture.

- August 18 – Chihuo, North America’s largest Chinese food and lifestyle platform, held the 6th “Taste of Asia Festival and North America Food Industry Summit” in Los Angeles. The event drew nearly 1,000 top professionals from across the U.S., Canada, and Greater China’s food and related industries. The summit also unveiled the 2024 North America Food Industry and Consumer White Paper.

- August 31–September 1 – The Overseas Young Chinese Forum (OYCF) held its 2024 annual conference and 25th-anniversary celebration in San Diego. Themed “Observing China Up Close: Fieldwork, Social Change, and U.S.-China Relations,” the event attracted nearly 80 experts, scholars, and Ph.D. students. The forum also announced the establishment of the OYCF Stilwell Research Fund to support research on U.S.-China relations.

- September 7 – The Southern California Chinese University Alumni Alliance hosted the grand cultural performance Brilliant Chapters of Art at the PYLUSD Performing Arts Center. The event featured nearly 200 performers and 50 alumni volunteers.

- October 12 – The Chinese Association for Science and Technology USA (CAST-USA) held its 32nd Annual Conference and 2024 Global Innovation Summit in San Diego. The event gathered Nobel Prize laureates, four Chinese American academicians, and other global leaders in academia, technology, and industry. The summit, themed “Technology Exchange, Cooperative Innovation, Breakthroughs, and Legacy,” highlighted the outstanding contributions of Chinese talent to global innovation.

- September 23 & October 19 – The Asian Hall of Fame celebrated its 20th anniversary with a series of events, including a book signing for Connie: A Memoir by legendary journalist Connie Chung on September 23. The annual awards gala followed on October 19 in Los Angeles, recognizing several Chinese Americans as “People of the Year.”

- November 3 – The Southern California Alumni Association of Shanghai Jiao Tong University held its relaunch ceremony in Irvine. The event also featured a book release for Returning Home, the autobiography of renowned Chinese American actress Lisa Lu, who attended the event at age 97 and reunited with nearly 100 local alumni.

- December 8 & December 22 – Southern California Chinese American organizations hosted several high-profile cultural exchange events. These included the “Flying Over the World’s Peak – Commemorating the 82nd Anniversary of the Hump Route” forum on December 8, organized by the Flying Tigers Heritage Association. On December 22, the Southern California Federation of Chinese American Associations co-hosted the “53rd Anniversary of Ping Pong Diplomacy” forum, attended by renowned Chinese table tennis players Ma Long and Liu Shiwen.
