Chinese Candidates Running for California Democratic Party Leadership Roles. Election is this Weekend

February 19, 2025 (San Francisco) – On February 22 and 23 registered California Democratic Party voters will be able to select 14 Democrats from each Assembly District (AD) to represent them at the next two California Democratic Party conventions. This process, known as the Assembly District Elections Meeting (ADEM) election, helps shape the future of the Democratic Party and policies.

A previous deadline to register for online voting passed on January 31, 2025. Any remaining Democratic Party voters that failed to register for online voting by the January 31 deadline and still want to participate in the election must vote in person this weekend.

AD19 Assemblymember Catherine Stefani, representing the Westside of San Francisco and Daly City, is supporting three prominent Chinese activists. Alan Wong 王兆倫 is currently an elected member of the City College of San Francisco Board of Trustees and policy director at Children’s Council of San Francisco. “The California Democratic Party convention delegates elected from this process will set the future of the Party. I believe that the Party must listen and focus on the core issues of the Asian community, including high quality schools and public safety,” said Wong, who is running for his fourth ADEM term. “I will bring those very important topics to the Party’s policy discussion. Don’t miss the opportunity to vote this weekend!”

AD17 Assemblymember Matt Haney, representing the Eastside of San Francisco, is also supporting three prominent Chinese activists.
