Solis Issues Statement on the Passing of LAPD Sergeant Shiou Deng

LOS ANGELES, Calif. – Los Angeles County Chair Pro Tem and First District Supervisor Hilda L. Solis issued the following statement today regarding the tragic passing of Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) Sergeant Shiou Deng:

“I am deeply saddened by the loss of Sergeant Shiou Deng, whose more than 26 years of dedicated service made a lasting impact on the City of Los Angeles. I extend my heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, and fellow officers during this incredibly difficult time. Sergeant Deng’s unwavering commitment to public safety, especially through his work in the Mental Evaluation Unit, demonstrated his compassion and leadership in protecting our most vulnerable. Sergeant Deng’s empathy and courage will continue to inspire all who serve. We honor his life, his service, and the impact he made in our communities.”

Flags at Los Angeles County facilities will continue to fly at half-staff to honor both Sergeant Shiou Deng and Baldwin Park Police Officer Samuel Riveros, who was killed in the line of duty on Friday, May 31, 2025, while responding to reports of gunfire.
