SAN GABRIEL VALLEY, Calif. – Operation Laptops, Los Angeles County Chair Pro Tem and First District Supervisor Hilda L. Solis’ initiative to expand digital access for students, has officially concluded with 473 laptops distributed across the greater San Gabriel Valley.
Chair Pro Tem Solis visited Shurr High School in Montebello and Rowland High School in Rowland Heights to personally distribute the final 10 laptops at each school, marking the completion of the program.
“Ensuring our students have access to reliable technology is essential to their education and their future,” said Chair Pro Tem Solis. “Through Operation Laptops, we have not only provided a tool for learning but also helped close the digital gap that too often limits opportunity for young people in our communities.”
Funded through $247,000 in First District discretionary funds, Operation Laptops distributed devices to students at 47 schools spanning 10 school districts and three local colleges, including:
- Rowland Unified School District
- Whittier City School District
- El Monte Union High School District
- Baldwin Park Unified School District
- Bassett Unified School District
- Whittier Union High School District
- Hacienda La Puente Unified School District
- Montebello Unified School District
- Mountain View School District
- Valle Lindo School District
- Citrus College, Mt. San Antonio College, and Rio Hondo College (Extended Opportunity Programs)
The initiative builds on Solis’ broader efforts to close the digital gap across Los Angeles County, including projects such as the Community Broadband Network pilot program in East Los Angeles, Boyle Heights and El Sereno.
