Despite Budget Challenges, LA Health Services Earns National and Countywide Recognition for Excellence in Care and Innovation
LOS ANGELES, CA—November 3, 2025: LA Health Services is facing the most challenging budget crisis in its history. Federal changes are impacting key healthcare programs and the funding sources we have long relied on to provide patient care. While LA Health Services remains committed to delivering world-class care to anyone regardless of their background or ability to pay, these reductions threaten access to care for hundreds of thousands of Angelenos.
In spite of these headwinds, LA Health Services’ workforce continues to deliver some of the best care in the country with extraordinary results. Our hospitals and teams have been recognized nationally and locally for excellence, innovation, and workplace culture.
“As someone who deeply believes in the power of public healthcare and the people who make it possible, these recognitions aren’t just awards,” said Dr. Christina Ghaly, Director of LA Health Services. “They are proof that mission-driven work can thrive under pressure—that compassion, skill, and dedication can overcome even the toughest challenges.”
Earlier this fall, LA Health Services earned 28 Los Angeles County Productivity and Quality Awards, adding to a year of national recognition for excellence in care—including top hospital rankings from U.S. News & World Report, Newsweek’s America’s Greatest Workplaces honors, and Leapfrog “A” ratings for hospital safety.
Nationally, LA Health Services earned acclaim across multiple fronts:
- Top National Rankings from U.S. News & World Report:
- Rancho Los Amigos National Rehabilitation Center—Top Rehabilitation Hospital in the Nation and #2 in California.
- Los Angeles General Medical Center—High Performing Hospital for Heart Failure.
- Olive View–UCLA Medical Center—High Performing Hospital for Maternity Care.
- National Recognition from Newsweek:
- LA Health Services—Named one of America’s Greatest Workplaces for Diversity & Inclusion and one of America’s Greatest Workplaces by State.
- Olive View–UCLA Medical Center—Recognized as one of America’s Best Maternity Hospitals for 2025, earning four ribbons for excellence in care, patient experience, and reputation among medical professionals.
- Two Magnet® Recognitions for Nursing Excellence—Both Los Angeles General Medical Center and Rancho Los Amigos National Rehabilitation Center achieved the Magnet® designation from the American Nurses Credentialing Center, a distinction held by fewer than 10% of hospitals nationwide, and even fewer safety net hospitals. Magnet Recognition is considered the gold standard for nursing excellence, leadership, and innovation in patient care.
- Third Consecutive Leapfrog “A” Hospital Safety Grade—Los Angeles General Medical Center received top marks again for patient safety, reinforcing its leadership in quality and safety.
Locally, LA Health Services received The Bronze Eagle Award for Safety Matters: Decreasing Staff Assaults (Harbor-UCLA Medical Center – Department of Nursing). In addition to this top ten award, Health Services also received multiple other Productivity and Quality Awards including:
- 1 Commission Top Ten Award
- 5 Commission Special Awards
- 11 Special Merit Awards
- 4 Traditional Awards
- 6 Certificates of Recognition
These accolades underscore the unwavering commitment of LA Health Services’ 23,000-strong workforce—a team of doctors, nurses, and staff who show up every day to deliver extraordinary care, regardless of background, status, or circumstance.
As Los Angeles faces a growing need for affordable, equitable healthcare, these achievements serve as a powerful reminder: LA Health Services is not just weathering the storm—it’s setting a national standard for excellence in public health services.
