LAPost / San Francisco, Calif. — San Francisco Supervisor Alan Wong issued a statement following a fatal shooting late Tuesday night on the 2200 block of 22nd Avenue, expressing condolences to the victim’s family and emphasizing the need for a careful investigation.
According to the San Francisco Police Department (SFPD), officers responded to reports of a shooting at approximately 10:43 p.m. on March 24 in the city’s Parkside neighborhood. Upon arrival, officers located an adult female suffering from a gunshot wound and immediately rendered aid. Police said a suspect has been taken into custody, and the case is currently being investigated by the SFPD’s Homicide Detail.
In a public statement released Wednesday, Wong said he was “deeply saddened by this tragic incident in our community,” adding that his thoughts are with the victim and her loved ones during what he described as “an incredibly difficult time.”
“Any loss of life in our community is devastating, regardless of the circumstances,” Wong said.
Preliminary information indicates that the firearm discharge may not have been intentional, though authorities stress that the investigation remains ongoing. Officials said a final determination regarding the circumstances of the shooting will be made by the San Francisco Police Department in coordination with the San Francisco District Attorney’s Office.
Wong also thanked emergency responders and law enforcement personnel who responded to the scene.
“I’m grateful to our first responders for their swift actions and to SFPD for their continued work as this investigation moves forward,” he said. “It is important that the facts are reviewed carefully and that the process is handled with care and transparency.”
The supervisor added that his office will remain engaged with local residents and stand ready to support the community as the investigation continues.
Authorities have not yet released the identity of the victim, and police have not disclosed additional details about the suspect or the circumstances leading to the shooting. Investigators are asking anyone with information related to the incident to contact the San Francisco Police Department.
The fatal shooting occurred in the Sunset/Parkside area near Santiago Street and 22nd Avenue, a residential neighborhood close to Lincoln High School and McCoppin Square Park.
