L.O.L. Surprise! Premieres First-Ever Live-Action Series Celebrating Friendship, Music and Girl Power
LAPost/North Hollywood, Calif. (July 28, 2026) – Global toy phenomenon L.O.L. Surprise! celebrated the world premiere of its first-ever live-action original series, L.O.L. Surprise! The Next Headliner, Tuesday evening in North Hollywood, marking a major milestone as the brand celebrates its 10th anniversary. Cast members, executives from MGA Entertainment and London Alley, along with media, influencers and invited guests, gathered to celebrate the franchise’s biggest entertainment project to date.
The series marks the first time the iconic L.O.L. Surprise! dolls have been brought to life in a scripted live-action format. Speaking before the screening, MGA Entertainment Chief Marketing Officer Josh Hackbarth described the project as the company’s most ambitious production yet.
“This year marks the 10th anniversary of L.O.L. Surprise!,” Hackbarth told the audience. “We’ve never attempted a project on this scale before, and we’ve never brought our girls to life in live action. About a year ago, we had a crazy idea: let’s create a girl group. Fast forward one year, and tonight we’re premiering it. This is the beginning of a very exciting new adventure, and we’re looking forward to the next 10 years.”
Following the screening, the audience responded with enthusiastic applause before the cast and creative team participated in a panel discussion moderated by The Hollywood Reporter‘s Kimberly Nordyke.
“You are among the very first people in the world to see this series,” Nordyke told attendees. “We just watched these girls chase their dreams, find their voices, and discover that having your friends by your side can make anything possible.”
The series blends original music, comedy and heartfelt storytelling while following five aspiring performers who initially compete for a coveted music opportunity before realizing their greatest success comes through collaboration rather than rivalry.
For the young cast, watching the completed series alongside a live audience was both emotional and nerve-racking.
“I was holding Olivia’s hand the entire time,” actress Giselle Torres, who plays B.B. Bonita, admitted. “I was nervous but excited. Seeing everyone’s reactions made the experience really special.”
Her fellow cast members echoed the sentiment, saying they found themselves listening closely for laughter and audience reactions throughout the screening, describing the evening as one of the most rewarding moments since production wrapped.
Showrunner and executive producer Corinne Marshall revealed that the production came together at an unusually fast pace. From joining the project to completing all eight episodes and entering production took only a matter of months.
“I’ve watched this cut many times,” Marshall said, “but tonight I was watching the girls and watching the audience.”
She praised the five leads not only for their singing, dancing and acting abilities, but also for their unexpected comedic instincts.
“They’re obviously beautiful, talented singers, actresses and dancers,” she said. “But they’re also incredibly funny. Some of the best moments came from what they naturally brought to their characters.”
Marshall added that once the cast had been selected, she began incorporating their real personalities into the scripts, allowing each character to evolve organically throughout the series.
Off screen, the cast said they developed friendships that closely mirrored the story being told on screen.
The actresses recalled bonding almost immediately during dance rehearsals, supporting one another throughout filming and quickly becoming close friends.
Many of the show’s sleepover scenes, they said, reflected genuine moments from production.
“We were constantly laughing, talking and eating snacks,” one cast member joked. “The crew actually had to tell us to quiet down because we were having so much fun.”
Music also plays a central role throughout the series.
Marshall explained that every episode features original songs designed not only to entertain but also to reflect each character’s emotional journey.
“We wanted every song to earn its place in the story,” she said. “The music had to express what the characters were experiencing emotionally.”
Perhaps the evening’s most memorable moment came when Marshall shared the real-life experience that inspired the show’s central message.
Early in her career, she said, she and another female writer were each told there was only one position available. Rather than compete against each other, they proposed that both be hired—even if it meant splitting the salary. Instead, the company ultimately hired both writers.
“There’s this lie we’re often told—that there’s only one seat at the table, especially for girls and women,” Marshall said. “But that’s simply not true.”
She said she wanted young audiences to understand that friendship and collaboration are often far more powerful than competition.
“I hope viewers learn to see other people not just as competitors, but as future collaborators and future friends,” she said. “If we bring that kind of energy into the world, I think we’ll end up in a much more positive place.”
L.O.L. Surprise! The Next Headliner is the franchise’s first scripted live-action comedy series and consists of eight episodes. Premiering Aug. 1 on the official L.O.L. Surprise!
