Solis Distributes More Than 1,700 Laptops to Youth and Seniors in the San Gabriel Valley
Distribution completes First District’s Operation Laptops initiative to help bridge the digital divide

WHITTIER, Calif. – Los Angeles County Board Chair and First District Supervisor Hilda L. Solis today distributed the final 847 laptops through her Operation Laptops initiative at Rio Hondo College, completing the allocation of more than 1,700 laptops to students and seniors across the greater San Gabriel Valley.
The laptops were distributed to students enrolled in 13 school districts and participants in five senior programs through the Los Angeles County Department of Parks and Recreation. The initiative expands access to technology and helps bridge the digital divide for youth and older adults across the First District.
“This investment reflects my continued commitment to expanding digital access for students and seniors across the First District,” said Board Chair Solis. “In today’s world, access to technology is essential for education, services and opportunity. Every student and senior deserves the tools they need to stay connected, access resources and succeed, and I’m proud to help provide that support.”
“Rio Hondo College was proud to partner with Supervisor Solis to help ensure that students and older adults have the technology they need to learn, connect and access opportunity,” said Rio Hondo College Superintendent/President Dr. Don Moya-Miller. “Our employees, trustees and College Corps students were honored to support this effort and help put laptops directly into the hands of students and seniors across the San Gabriel Valley.”
Operation Laptops has distributed more than 1,700 laptops across the San Gabriel Valley, including 473 laptops distributed in October 2025 and 388 laptops distributed in May 2026. The initiative builds on Chair Solis’ broader efforts to expand digital access and connectivity, including support for the Community Broadband Network pilot program serving communities such as East Los Angeles, Boyle Heights and El Sereno.
