Barger to Commemorate Juneteenth at Historic Sun Village Celebration
WHAT:
Supervisor Kathryn Barger will join community members to commemorate and celebrate Juneteenth at the historic Jackie Robinson Park in Sun Village. Jackie Robinson Park was the first park in the U.S. to be named after the esteemed first African American player in Major League Baseball and was designated as a historic landmark by the County in 2022.

DETAILS:
Sun Village has historic roots as the first community established in the Antelope Valley where African American people could rent and buy property. Visuals at the all-day Juneteenth event will consist of stage performances, live music, food vendors, games, and historical exhibits.
Miss Juneteenth will also be chosen during a pageant at 11 a.m. New Orleans Mayor LaToya Cantrell, who grew up in the area, will give the keynote address at 12:15 p.m. Supervisor Barger will speak at 12:30 p.m.
