LOS ANGELES, Calif. – Los Angeles County Chair Pro Tem and First District Supervisor Hilda L. Solis led a Pride Month presentation today during the Board of Supervisors meeting, honoring four individuals and one organization for their advocacy, service, and leadership in support of LGBTQ+ communities across the region.

The presentation followed a breakfast reception where Chair Pro Tem Solis delivered remarks emphasizing the importance of community, visibility, and resilience in the face of rising challenges to LGBTQ+ rights and well-being.

“These are deeply challenging times for many in our communities, especially LGBTQ+ individuals, immigrant families, and others who are simply trying to live with dignity, safety, and joy,” said Chair Pro Tem Solis. “That is why coming together today in solidarity and shared purpose is not only meaningful, it is necessary. It reminds us that we are not alone and that by standing together, we can continue building a more just and compassionate Los Angeles County.”

During the presentation, Chair Pro Tem Solis recognized:

  • Emmanuel Estrada, Councilmember, City of Baldwin Park, for his equity-centered leadership and work on behalf of working-class families.

  • Camila Camaleón, President of the San Gabriel Valley LGBTQ+ Center and Director of Policy at California Latinas for Reproductive Justice, for her organizing work uplifting queer and trans communities of color.

  • Hans Johnson, President of Progressive Victory and Vice Chair of the Los Angeles County Civilian Oversight Commission, for his long-standing civil rights advocacy.

  • Julia Diamond, Vice President of The Music Center Arts, for her leadership in making public art more accessible and community-focused.

  • El Sereno Greengrocer, co-founded by Patricia Torres and Erika Crenshaw, for promoting food justice and mutual aid.

“Each of today’s honorees leads with heart, vision, and purpose,” added Chair Pro Tem Solis. “They remind us just how essential LGBTQ+ voices are to the future of Los Angeles County.”

Chair Pro Tem Solis also highlighted several milestones achieved during her tenure, including the creation of Los Angeles County’s first LGBTQ+ Commission, expanded access to gender-affirming care, and ongoing efforts to improve services and protections for LGBTQ+ residents.
